"Entered a Trade to Buy More Citigroup" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-07-01 07:22:50

Based on all the recent market turmoil with the financial stocks my recent analysis of and the value I believe it presents based on historical dividend yields and P/E ratios. I have just entered a trade to buy more Citigroup. Since I use the as my broker the trades are not immediate. They pool all the trades from their clients and as such. I ordain make the acquire on November 27th. That seems like a while away but I don’t think we ordain see too much of a rise between now and then. Given that my cost basis on the stock is about $47 it has a long way to go before I am paying more than that. My primary reason for buying is the 6.4% dividend yield in relation to its historical yield. The 10 year average furnish is 2.3% which puts this stock as way undervalued. In addition with a dividend increase compose that looks like this I am encouraged that the increasing dividends ordain provide some downside protection: I have written before that it is not a good idea to and I realize that this is a bit of risky move as we are unsure about what the true impacts to performance the current crisis may/will have. However with a payout ratio of 56% it is comfort covered well and my long-term cerebrate should allow me to defy this act for another 25+ years. TDG: How stable do you evaluate the dividend is? I have read some articles that accept that C ordain have to cut its dividend sell off some assets or both. I had a stop-loss that went off at $38.32 on 11/1/2007 so I ordain have to wait 30 days to avoid a process sale. If I can get comfortable with C’s long-term dividend prospects. I would like to get back in below the $38.32. I evaluate any current shareholders would want the dividend lowered. THe problem with the balance pelt the potential additional write down risk of assets from structured investment vehicles; i accept C is too big to disappoint but an equity dilution is not a 0% risk. Building capital to prevent equity dilution should be seriously considered by the come in. I think Bob Rubin can navigate this; but can anyone from reading the SEC filing define potential write-down? I would try to do that to give you clues on when to add up down to lower cost basis. I’d be checking further into the latest news about the off balance sheet arrangements that demand Citibank to buy back the subprime mortgage cast aside should a buyer not be open. Long-term prospects for Citi are contingent on how Citi evolves as a company. Will they break it up? Will leadership be able to merge where Chuck Prince tried and could not? Agree there is potential in Citi but unsure how that potential ordain get realized. Serious right now maybe a good time to buy. Things can’t really get much worse from here. "Mozilla is becoming disappointing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 00:16:41

Man oh man. I used to like Firefox. Safari and IE both have their advantages (mainly being native apps) but in days gone past they didn’t undergo the luster than Firefox did. Sure. I’d use Safari on occasion but usually when I wanted to analyse something quickly without opening Firefox which took a while (due to my 4,000 open tabs). But in recent months I find myself using Safari more and more simply because Firefox has gotten slow and buggy. Then after Leopard’s release (and subsequent install). Firefox had some massive bugs which are still in displace (non-functional pull-down menus for instance). Boo. You can create by mental act my disappointment when I construe this today about the channel of Firefox 3.0 and the fact that they’re going to be ignoring a huge percentage of the known bugs in their go to get the browser out the door. Big enough even to postpone a release. And Mozilla is taking the next few weeks to fix these major bugs before releasing its final version of Firefox 3.0 next year. But the rest of those smaller bugs ordain have to wait. Only 20 percent of Firefox 3.0’s known bugs ordain be fixed in measure for the channel. And that seems to be authorise with Mozilla. It’s asked the developers to grade the known bugs in the app which reach about 700 that are marked as blockers. Already months behind schedule the compel is on for Firefox to get these major bugs worked out and hopefully there ordain be the same sense of urgency to fix the rest of those 560 bugs too. Yikes. Seriously why not just act? Are they really in such peril to channel that they be to channel like this? I thought they were supposed to be doing things better than traditional software makers… Spread the evince about this articleThese icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. Since Leopard came out. I don’t think I’ve even loaded FireFox or Camino. I haven’t seen anything that doesn’t bring home the bacon in Safari 3 and it’s super fast compared to FireFox. I disbelieve I’ll go back at this inform. I see no reason. I will probably even remove them from my system. I’ve even switched to using Safari on Windows for general surfing — that’s a twist I never expected. I still use Firefox as my primary browser for the developer tools and plugins but I think it’s becoming a victim of it’s own success. Features seem to be the main focus at the depreciate of stability. Frankly. I never understood why Camino was a necessary development product. Seems like they could have deployed those resources on making a exceed faster more shelter Firefox for the Mac. Hey Jake - The mashable story was based on a misleading bind that made it appear like we’re ignoring 80% of *all* the bugs we’ve fixed in Firefox 3. The reality is we’ve already made over 11,000 bug fixes (including feature and performance enhancements) in the label for Firefox 3. I’d encourage you to construe the details. The story of “only 20%” of bugs getting fixed before released was not true. Mozilla has already announced the fix of 11,000 bugs with 700 issues comfort being discussed. I don’t denote the source of the 20% affirm but it wasn’t from Mozilla. I know that at least CNN has begun to adjudge the inaccuracy of that story. Camino is developed by the Camino development team and community; it’s not a product to which the Mozilla Foundation devotes resources other than fixing bugs that they find in the core out code and providing server resources for things like source control and builds. I don’t think that ignoring those (few) bugs or denying the Camino community those server resources would have any positive cause on Firefox but I suppose someone might think otherwise. As an aside you shouldn’t forget that you can participate in Mozilla’s development directly from layout engine to lie end to testing to localization to user give; you’re not restricted to hoping that things will go as you would desire or complaining if they don’t and we undergo literally thousands of people with no other software development undergo who back up us every day to alter Firefox and our other bring home the bacon. I’m a little saddened that people would read a hit article somewhere describing a very significant change in development philosophy and just take it at approach value when it’s really so easy to find someone directly involved in the communicate or go to primary sources. (Not picking on you. Jake as it happens a lot. I evaluate a lot of people just aren’t used to the fact that the developers of a study piece of their software arsenal are actually transparent and available.) Hopefully this go of (honest) error and correction will back up populate bloggers and journalists alike to dig a little deeper before sounding our death knell. "Not a bad writing job for a guy that supported the invasion" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 16:19:51

To: President George W. BushSubject: The Hidden Costs of Iraq You may recall that you got rid of your loyal White accommodate economic adviser Lawrence B. Lindsey back in 2002 after among other sins he claimed that a war in Iraq might cost as much as $200 billion. At the time. color House staffers sneered that Lindsey was being alarmist. Hardly. One commonly cited calculate of Iraq's cost based on an August analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office is $1 trillion and that's probably on the low side. A report released measure week by the Democratic staff of Congress's Joint Economic Committee put the war's 2002-08 tab at $1.3 trillion. But all these figures don't quite get at Iraq's real be. Indeed we usually don't change surface frame the question the alter way. We'd do better to accept what we've lost rather than focusing only on what we've paid. We often think of be simply in terms of dollars spent but the real cost of a choice -- what economists call its "opportunity cost" -- consists of the forgone alternatives of the things we could have had instead. For instance the cost of seeing a movie is not just the dollars you plunked drink for the ticket but also the subtler cost of missing a dinner at home or a cocktail party at work. This idea sounds simple but if applied consistently it requires us to rethink and yes increase the costs of the Iraq war. Set aside the question of what we could undergo accomplished at home with the energy and resources we've devoted to Iraq and concentrate just on national security. Here the hidden be of the war above all is that the United States has lost much of its ability to halt nuclear proliferation. Mr. President when the war started. I was convinced by your arguments that we had to forbid Iraq's dictatorship from getting the bomb. No longer. Let's be at some of the opportunity costs the United States has incurred so far: I anticipate Prof. Cowan doesn't consider 800,000 or more Iraqis to be human. He didn't undergo doodley-squat to say about dead and injured Iraqis only Americans. I'm taking a hard lie with these folks. A very hard lie. Too bad we don't get an analysis like this for all government spending. We are spending too much on everything. I undergo to be on a balanced budget. Why doesn't the government? The demicans and republicrats are spending us into oblivion! You can do a similar analysis anytime you be. be for example at the opportunity costs entailed by the Republicans and Democrats creating a tax system that redistributes income upwards. What about the opportunity costs of devoting such a large overlap of our federal calculate to the Department of War. (Yes. I know it is called the Department of Defense but that is a lie created to keep you believing in things that are demonstrably not adjust.) &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;a href=&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;http://sm8 sitemeter com/stats asp?site=sm8prometheus6&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; target=&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;_top&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;img src=&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;http://sm8 sitemeter com/meter asp?site=sm8prometheus6&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; alt=&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot;place Meter&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;quot; adjoin=0&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/a&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;

Alice Debord authorized a re-release of her preserve’s bring home the bacon. The schedule. “Guy Debord: Complete Cinematic Works” is edited and translated by Ken Knabb an acknowledged expert on Situationist theory and author of “Public Secrets.” Knabb’s introduction provides a brief–but solid overview of Debord’s philosophy–including “detournement”–”the diversion of already existing cultural elements to new subversive purposes.” Knabb’s introduction is then followed by the scripts with accompanying scene direction and express over for Debord’s six films: “Howls for Sade” (this enter is all blank–with no check images)“On the Passage of a Few Persons Through a Rather apprise Unity of Time”“evaluate of Separation”“The Society of the Spectacle”“Refutation of All Judgments. Pro or Con. Thus Far Rendered on the Film The Society of the Spectacle”“In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni” Accompanying the film scripts are several color & white stills taken from the films and then follows a number of articles about the films and Situationist theory. Finally the book includes a section of notes on the films a chronology of Debord’s life a filmography a enumerate of “unrealized film projects” an index and an all-important bibliography for further reading. This bibliography very specifically recommends some books for Situationist information while referring to others as a poor obtain–this is extremely helpful. Debord’s films may never be accessible–we can hardly evaluate them to pop up on cable any day soon so the scripts become a valuable tool in understanding Situationist theory and the schedule’s layout ensures at least a representation of Debord’s films.
